Angela Groothuizen
Angela Groothuizen (b. in Alkmaar, Netherlands on 28 September 1959) is a Dutch singer, artist and television personality. She was a member of the Dutch Dance/Pop girl group Dolly Dots that was popular in Europe in the 1980s and most particularly in the Netherlands. The 6-member group included in addition Angela Groothuizen the following: Angéla Kramers, Anita Heilker, Esther Oosterbeek, Patty Zomer and Ria Brieffies. The Dolly Dots had many hits between 1979 and 1988.
After the split in 1988, Angelina Groothuizen teamed up with Ruud Mulder, former guitarist of disco/funk-contemporaries Spargo, to record as "Angela & the Rude".
In 1998 the Dots reunited for a one-off concert to celebrate their 10th split anniversary. On October 1 of that year they were interviewed by Paul de Leeuw. In 2003, Aad Ouberg, who was closely involved with the Dolly Dots was responsible for getting a Dolly Dots musical off the ground. The musical Love Me Just a Little Bit More played at The Chassé Theatre in Breda and around the Netherlands during 2004, but closed in early 2005. As result of renewed interest in the group after the musical, Warner Bros. Records released a Dolly Dots Greatest Hits compilation of the group as well as a DVD. In 2006, all original six members reunited for a tour.
Meanwhile Groothuzien had begun a television career starting with an adaptation of Challenge Anika for AVRO. Her contract expired in 2005 and was not renewed.
Groothuizen has since moved to commercial television as a panel judge on talent show programs, particularly in Dutch X Factor since 2008. She is also active in musical theatre and in January 2010 took part in Label in Dutch stages.
