Gare du Nord
Gare du Nord is a Dutch-Belgian jazz duo consisting of Doc (Ferry Lancée) and Inca (Barend Fransen). Barend Fransen - Saxophone, Vocals, Ferdy Lancee - Guitar, Vocals.
Ferdy Lancee (real surname: Dousenbach) and Belgian saxophone player Barend Fransen start working together in 2001 to make a soundtrack for a lounge night in Belgium. Their music gets in the hand of the great independent Play It Again Sam in Brussels, what lead to the albums (In Search Of) Excellounge (2001) and Kind Of Cool (2002). Several songs are used as soundtrack of the series Six Feet Under and movie Ghost Rider (2007). In 2003, Gare du Nord goes on a tour through the Netherlands and Russia with a new-formed band, containing nine musicians. In their own Cell4-Studio in the Netherlands they record their third album: Club Gare du Nord (2005). This has been done with the cooperation of French Jazz trumpetist Erik Truffaz and the gospel singers of the American Imani Fellowship Choir.
On the twelfth of January, during Eurosonic in Groningen, the Underground Station Tour 2006 of Gare du Nord starts. The jazz duo makes the soundtrack for Stout, a book by Heleen van Royen and Marlies Dekkers.
Gare du Nord records with British singer Paul Carrack the single Ride On. This song is on the album Sex 'n' Jazz (May 2007). The fourth album of Gare du Nord is the first part of a "love trilogy". Next to Carrack, the album is vocally supported by the originally Italian singer Dorona Alberti and soul singer Marvin Gaye in the song You're My Medicine. This song can also be heard in Sexual Healing, and American biographical movie of director Lauren Goodman about the last years of Marvin Gaye's life (1939-1984). You're my medicine also comes out on single. On 28 April Gare du Nord receives a golden record for their debut album (In Search Of) Excel lounge. In the season 2007-2008, Gare du Nord goes on the Theatre Tour Sex 'n' Jazz. The successful sales of Sex 'n' Jazz gives the duo a second golden record in October, given by fashion designer Marlies Dekkers. On the fifteenth of October a Gold Edition of Sex 'n' Jazz comes out with six newly recorded tracks.
The second part of the love trilogy enters the charts in May of 2009: Love for Lunch is the latest album by the Dutch-Belgian jazz duo. Dish of the Day, the second track of the album, became a single.
